Snap-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is a synthetic octapeptide analogue of the N-terminal fragment of SNAP-25, a protein involved in SNARE complex formation at neuromuscular junctions. It has a molecular formula of C41H70N14O16S and a molecular weight of 1076.15 g/mol.
Snap-8 is used in vitro to investigate SNARE complex assembly and acetylcholine vesicle release at the neuromuscular junction. Studies have examined its competitive inhibition of SNAP-25 incorporation into the SNARE complex in cell culture and reconstituted vesicle fusion assay models. It is a standard research tool in synaptic biology.
